About the School

The School of Computer Sciences (SOCS), Mahatma Gandhi University, was established in 1990 with the objective of imparting higher education and research in the field of Computer Science to meet the growing demand for skilled professionals.

The School launched its first programme, M.Sc. Computer Science, in 1993 under the leadership of Prof. (Dr.) K.N. Ramachandran Nair, the founder director.

Over the last three decades, the School has gained a strong reputation as an advanced centre for postgraduate learning and research in frontier areas of Computer Science. Its programmes focus on strengthening students’ knowledge across diverse areas of Computer Science while exposing them to the challenges of developing computer systems.

Additionally, SOCS provides value-added courses, encourages blended learning using e-resources, and hosts international students since 2012. With its up-to-date curriculum, highly qualified faculty, and state-of-the-art infrastructure, the School provides an intellectually stimulating atmosphere for the holistic development of students.

To emerge as a centre of excellence in knowledge generation and dissemination for moulding technically competent and socially committed computer scientists/professionals for nation building.
